Information
In 2008 Mace Sustain secured funding from the London Development Agency and the European Social Fund to deliver a London-wide project supporting employed people with gaining ESOL, literacy and numeracy qualifications. As part of this Mace Sustain is delivering "Construction for Life", a project which supports employed people with skills for life whilst working within the construction industry.
Mace has long realised that our projects have the power to transform lives as well as spaces and social inclusion programmes are an increasingly key element to the way we deliver. There is also a critical need for trained employees in a sector needs which loses in excess of 70,000 workers each year to retirement, and there are skills shortages in most trades and at managerial and supervisory levels so the programme is both timely and strategically beneficial for all involved.
Construction for Life has been funded through the LDA and ESF to provide a range of training and guidance. These public funding streams enable the project to offer all training for free.
The project will provide:
- Individual Advice and Guidance - 600 employed people complete an Information, Advice and Guidance session
- Education - 60 people are referred to further education or learning
- Qualifications - 360 ESOL / literacy / numeracy qualifications at pre-entry level 1, entry level 1 or 2
- Qualifications - 180 ESOL / literacy / numeracy qualifications at entry level 3 or level 1
The project is restricted to employed and self employed men and women currently working in the construction industry. Provision will be tailored and timed to ensure accessibility and suitability to individuals needs.
