Mace Group has been appointed to provide health and safety advisory support to ZPMC and their client PSA Great Yarmouth during the offloading, installation and commissioning of two quay cranes as part of the container terminal development of the Great Yarmouth outer harbour project.
A team from the group's utilities sector, provided safety guidance and advice to an international team from the Shanghai-based contractor ZPMC, PSA HNN (Belgium) and PSA Singapore. Following a CDM competency assessment on the project team and specifically ZPMC, representatives from Mace Sustain joined the team to ensure the full ESH compliance of a predominantly international team to the stringent requirements outlined in UK health and safety legislation.
Following a two-month voyage from Shanghai aboard the Zhen Hua 6, the two 60 metre high, 1,140 tonnes quay cranes were delivered to Great Yarmouth and rolled off the ship and on to land via temporary bridge beams. They were then jacked onto the permanent rails on the north quay wall of the outer harbour. The entire operation had to be carefully controlled to ensure safe off-loading within tight tidal ranges and wind parameters.
