Information
In 2007 Mace provided detailed quantitative risk analysis to assist Mott MacDonald in recommending the optimal tunnelling option for Crossrail's Farringdon station platform tunnnels.
Detailed Monte-Carlo modelling was carried out of the cost, time and risk, especially ground conditions risk, associated with each of the tunnelling methodologies for Crossrail's Farringdon station platform tunnels. The tunnelling methodologies incuded tunnel boring machines, sprayed concrete lining and a combination of both.
This analysis enabled more in-depth comparison by Mott MacDonald of the options available, reinforcing the recommendations made and allowing Crossrail to make a more informed decision, balancing cost and time with associated risk exposure.
