Information

BREEAM is a well established environmental assessment method for buildings. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable development and demonstrates a level of achievement. It has become the vocabulary used to describe a buildings environmental performance.

Worldwide, BREEAM is considered the most successfully executed programme for promoting sustainable practices. It also influences other initiatives to improve the environmental performance of buildings, by demonstrating improvements over Building Regulations. Using industry best practice BREEAM works towards government and global targets of 60% carbon reduction by 2050; zero carbon buildings, new homes and schools by 2016; new public sector buildings by 2018; waste reduction/ recycling, and local authorities carbon reduction commitments.
Projects are assessed using a system of credits: management, health and wellbeing, energy, transport, water, materials, waste, land use and ecology and pollution. The assessment process results in a report covering the issues together with a formal certificate giving a rating on a scale of UNCLASSIFIED, PASS, GOOD, VERY GOOD, EXCELLENT and OUTSTANDING.

Mace has provided bespoke BREEAM assessments for the following projects:

Oxhey Library - Watford
Wellington Place - Leeds Office and Education, Lambeth Sustainable Homes
Preston Manor School - Wembley
Coulsdon Academy - Surrey
Francis Combe Academy - Watford
Bushey Hall Academy - Watford.
