Information
Mace is providing project and programme management services for the redevelopment of the Ashmolean Museum, the oldest in the UK, for client Oxford University.
The scheme is partly funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and represents one of the largest museum projects ever to be undertaken outside of London. The project will see the redevelopment of the grade 1 listed museum that stands land locked in the middle of Oxford City Centre.
The new museum, designed by Rick Mather Architects will provide significantly upgraded environmental conditions for artifacts, improved access and navigability and a new education department to greatly enhance the facilities that are currently on offer. Mace will also manage the decant of the existing museum prior to demolition and the migration process thereafter.
Key features:
- Complex project with construction methodology driven by onerous planning requirement.
- High profile stakeholders.
- Management of the HLF application and reporting processes.
- Following OJEU procedures where required.
- Management of design, tender, construction and handover processes.
- Significant input from specialist designers such as exhibition design consultants.
- Working in accordance with the University of Oxford's management protocols.
