Sense publishes July Quarterly Construction Industry Inflation Report

05/08/2009

Sense, the cost consultancy arm of the Mace Group, has published its fourth construction industry inflation report. This quarterly report is a download from the Sense website and provides an insightful overview on the current state of pricing within the construction sector and of the market itself.

"Whilst there are signs that the pace of contraction in economic activity is now moderating, the extreme weakness of new construction orders suggests industry output has further to fall. Challenging as things have been to date, worse is yet to come.

Efficiency drives and rationalisation programmes have increased the scope for contractors to price competitively and negotiation with the supporting supply chain, whether collaboratively or otherwise, has yielded further cost savings. Opportunities to tender are scarce and competition is increasingly aggressive. The industry continues to be plagued by uncertainty. Examples of projects being postponed or even cancelled up to the very last minute are numerous as nervousness prevails and finance remains relatively scarce and expensive."
