Mace Living completes Weedington Road for Pocket Living

20/12/2008

Mace Living has completed Pocket Living's first affordable housing development, on Weedington Road in Camden.

The 22-apartment development is an innovative affordable housing concept aimed at Londoners on low to moderate incomes who are priced out of private housing and salaried-out of social housing. For this target group, Pocket's development and density approach creates homes that are capable of being priced at a discount of 20-25% to the local housing market. A third of the units have already been reserved.

Work began on site in October 2007 with the demolition of an existing taxi repair garage, five lockup units and a live electric substation.

The structure is brick clad with full height windows and most apartments include a Juliet balcony. Fourteen of the apartments have been fitted with solar heating.

The flats are factory designed and utilise space-saving ideas such as under-floor heating to minimise the space taken by radiators and the provision of communal storage cages. The cost savings made during construction are passed on to key workers, who can buy a home starting at £150,000.
