Mace Group's work on Dublin Airport seen as "green leader"

25/09/2008
As construction manager on Dublin Airport's T2 project, Mace Group oversaw a procurement process that led to the introduction of environmentally-friendly plastic site hoarding. Yorkshire company Eco-Hoardings used the project as a case study to enter the 2008 Green Leaders in Business Awards and was named runner-up in the small business category. The plastic hoarding is made from recycled industrial PVC and is more environmentally friendly than timber, which is typically used for construction site hoardings. Timber hoardings have little value and often end up in landfill.
Once the T2 project is complete, the client Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has three options: it can re-use it on other construction projects at the airport, sell it on to another contractor or sell it back to Eco-Hoardings for re-use or recycling. There is currently 1.5km of plastic hoarding on the T2 site and the modular design of the system allows the hoarding to be easily moved during the various phases of the project.
The project:
The Dublin Airport T2 project is for the delivery of a new terminal building, pier and associated infrastructure and is being undertaken under a third party agreement with Arup (lead consultant) Mace Group and Pascall and Watson. Awarded in late 2005, the €609M project is due for completion in 2009.
