Mace and Ashe build on CR credentials

Mace recently teamed up with capital works framework contractor Ashe to work with a group of primary school pupils at Sacred Heart School in Bushey to design and build an outdoor classroom to support its development as an eco-status pathfinder school. The classroom was officially opened by the Mayor of Bushey on the 7th November.

The project concept and school was identified by HCC following approach from the corporate responsibility team at Mace. The initial design was developed through Mace working with group of gifted and talented pupils at the school. The design was then built by Ashe which agreed to provide all the labour and materials for the project under its corporate responsibility banner.

Key themes for the pupils were sustainability and the environment. The classroom has been constructed from reclaimed materials and is designed to be maintenance free. A state of the art weather station has been incorporated into the scheme and will be used in both the indoor and outdoor classroom following a day of complementary training from the advisory support unit at the University of Hatfield.

In addition to the design workshop, the Sacred Heart pupils were each given a construction based role on the project to build their understanding of the diverse roles within the construction industry.
