John Hanley
Environment, Safety & Health Director
John is a chartered health and safety professional. He joined Mace in 1994 and progressed to his current role as director in 2001.
He is the driving force behind the group's industry recognised environment, safety and health (ESH) track record and reputation and has developed a highly respected professional ESH team to support the business, projects and clients.
John is also the managing director of Mace Sustain, the consultancy arm of the Mace Group providing ESH related performance improvement solutions to the marketplace including services on sustainability, behavioural safety, CDM coordination, social inclusion programmes, compliance, training and performance measurement.
With over twenty years construction experience in his professional role, John has well developed technical and leadership skills. His early career development included six years fully engaged on site on the Broadgate and Ludgate developments before joining Mace. Snce then he has continuously built on this major site experience and developed an understanding and utilisation of modern management tools and techniques to provide Mace with an industry leading ESH reputation.
John's motivation is his belief that the construction workforce deserves, and expects, continuous improvement of site ESH standards and that achieving high ESH standards recognises their considerable contribution to the company's industry achievements and success. He believes that this recognition is a key motivator to them and is an essential factor to the industry's overall performance improvement objectives.
Originating from Gourock, in the West of Scotland, John now lives in the Barnet area of Hertfordshire with his wife and daughter.
